Forsee Power will equip the Régiolis hybrid regional trains in France

The batteries of the future Régiolis Hybride will be produced at the new site of Forsee Power in Poitiers, France, in the Nouvelle Aquitaine Region.

Paris, September 20, 2018 – Forsee Power, the French expert in smart battery systems for electromobility, has been chosen by Alstom to equip the new Régiolis Hybride trains. The first systems will be delivered at the end of 2019 to allow testing with SNCF (French national railway company) in 2020, for a serial roll-out in 2022.

Alstom is once again relying on the expertise of Forsee Power, who already supplies the batteries of Aptis, Alstom’s electric bus. For this project, Alstom has chosen Forsee Power’s PULSE range of lithium-titanate (LTO) high-power batteries, specially developed for the railway market.

A benchmark in the transport market with the most comprehensive battery range, Forsee Power has proven its technologies aboard buses, trucks, industrial vehicles and marine applications around the world.

Designed with SNCF and in partnership with the Grand Est, Nouvelle-Aquitaine and Occitanie Regions in France, this new hybrid train called “Régiolis Hybride” is manufactured by Alstom with the objective of saving 20% of energy and reduction in greenhouse gas emissions. Régiolis Hybride will benefit from regenerative braking on arrival at the station, to charge the batteries, and to use this energy during traction.

This new generation of Régiolis trains will be designed and produced in Alstom’s Reichshoffen site, a center of excellence for regional trains, in collaboration with two other Alstom sites in France: Tarbes for the traction drive and Villeurbanne for onboard systems.

The Forsee Power batteries will be produced in the Nouvelle Aquitaine Region, in Poitiers, at the new industrial site opened in August 2018, which already employs 100 people and 300 by 2021.

Christophe Gurtner, President and CEO of Forsee Power says “With our many international references in all transport markets, including rail, Forsee Power is unquestionably positioned as a key player in the battery market. This new collaboration with Alstom gives Forsee Power the opportunity to once again partner with a major transport player. We welcome this alliance for an ambitious and innovative electromobility project!
